Policy Research Centre on Equal Opportunities (PRCEO)
The PRCEO is a Flemish study and expertise centre on equal opportunities
that serves an academic and a policy-supporting purpose.
It is a consortium of the University of Antwerp (UA) and Hasselt University
(UHasselt).
Goals
- To provide a scientific basis for government policymaking on equal
opportunities through:
- Policy-supporting and problem-driven research in the short term;
- Policy-relevant fundamental research in the long term;
- Gathering of relevant information, statistics and indicators.
- To inform and enhance awareness of equal opportunities by:
- Disseminating research findings, statistics and indicators to policymakers, the academic community, civil society and the public at large;
- Participating in steering committees, consultative bodies and public debates on the issue of equal opportunities.
Expertise
- An intersectional (i.e. not limited to a single dimension of equal opportunities), integral (i.e. encompassing various domains of life) and dynamic (i.e. variable over the life course) approach to equal opportunities;
- The opportunity dimensions of gender, age, ethnicity and sexual preference;
- Various public and private life domains: education, labour market (incl. retirement phase), politics, voluntary work, the media (imaging, media behaviour), ICT (e-inclusion), healthcare, social networks (individual and in relation to social movements), family and relationship formation, socialisation and perception of identity;
- Statistics and indicators on equal opportunities and research into the subjective perception of equal opportunities.
